We hate to sound like snobs but once you’ve upgraded from department store sheets and towels, it’s hard to go back. With how much time you spend in bed, either sleeping or just relaxing, and with the shower and soak being one of the main ways we unwind these days, we figure it’s a worthwhile investment. Plus updating your textiles and fixtures in these rooms is not only easy on the old bones, but on the eyes as well, simply a great way to change the vibe.

If your sheets and duvet are a bit tatty looking it can really dampen the good energy of the entire bedroom. Plush new sheets and covers are just the thing to perk up your bedroom, especially in vital shades like teal and coral. Try out a new coordinating decoration while you’re at it: how charming would a print from Picasso’s blue period look above your new aquamarine sheets? Or perhaps a minimalist bedside lamp to shed some light on things?

In the bathroom, small changes can have a huge impact. One pet peeve of ours is cruddy toilet roll holders. Too finicky, shabby, or just flat out ugly, there’s no reason to accept any of these flaws. You’d never thought a toilet roll holder could be a statement piece but with electric contemporary designs they certainly can be. Breathe a little air into the space while you’re at it with a new planter and cactus, you won’t even have to water it!
