Turns out you can treat the world like a catwalk even when it’s cold outside. Scarves are a fashionable and practical accessory that can add that final va-va-voom to an outfit whilst also warming you up in the colder months. From chunky woollen scarves to cosy snugs, as well as silky bandanas, we’ve got a wide variety of styles and designs to match any occasion (and temperature).
A good scarf is like a good hug - warming, comforting and no matter what, you’re always in the mood for one. We’re loving Goldkid London’s red tartan oversized woollen scarf, but ID Peter London’s chic blue silk scarf is also making our head spin. If neither of those are tickling your fancy, then don’t you worry - we have so many other different types on offer you won’t even know where to begin.
On top of that, each of our scarves can be tied differently to get multiple uses/ looks out of one. For francophile types the French knot is a definite must - just fold the scarf in half and put it around your shoulders - from there all you need to do is take one loose end and pull it over and under the scarf loop and do the reverse with the other end. Voila! A magnifique look that’s uber chic.
Or, play it safe but stylish with a double sided twist - we personally recommend Eldblå’s hand-knitted grey scarf fresh from Iceland for this look, but Emily Mala’s unique black silk scarf with gold stars would also work great.
If you’re really looking to get some bang for buck, go for a silk scarf to get even more use out of your chosen scarf. A look popularised by Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, elegantly tie a silk scarf around your head for a sprinkle of 1920s Hollywood glamour (especially if you style it with a pair of oversized sunglasses). Or, for a totes adorbs look wrap a silk scarf into a low ponytail - we personally think that ID Peters London’ orange henna silk scarf would be great for this, especially if you’re a brunette.
There’s a lot of different scarves out there, so when it comes to choosing the perfect one for you it’s good to lay some basic groundwork. The main types of scarves are: knit, pashmina, and infinity, and each one is lovely for its own unique reasons.
A knitted scarf can best be described as the feeling you get when you visit your grandma for a Sunday Roast in the country. A wholesome accessory made with warming materials like wool, this is a must for below-average temperatures. We’re big fans of Eldblå’s range of knitted scarves and shawls - hauled all the way from Sweden, the Gotlandic wool is super soft and keeps the neck and face nice and toasty. Our personal favourite is their grey rough shawl, but their chic white scarf would look great in the snow.
Pashminas are the creme de la creme of the scarf world - they’re made out of a fine type of cashmere wool that makes them luxuriously velvety and a real must for those looking for style and comfort in equal measures. Treat yourself this season to Likemary’s decadent pashmina scarves - they’ve got ‘em in all sorts of colour ways, from a deep cobalt blue one with turquoise trimmings, to sleek pitch-black one with oaky brown finishings. You can wear your pashmina in a variety of ways, either wrap it around your torso like a shawl, or do the classic double sided twist - it’s such a beaut material with vibrant colours so drape it all over you to really show it off.
An infinity scarf gets its name from its design - a loop of fabric crocheted or knitted into a circle making it great for wrapping around your shoulders or neck. Bohemia’s vibrant blue infinity scarf with pom pom trimmings is a gorgeous example of this, so too is Supreme Bon Ton’s light and dark grey infinity scarf.
Scarves are usually the last thing you put on, but that doesn’t mean they’re a last minute add on. Depending on the scarf (as well as how much you love it), make it the first thing you pick out and pair the rest of your wardrobe so it goes with a boldly coloured scarf. Emilia Mala’s vibrant yellow silk scarf complete with a quirky cat and bird print is an example of such a scarf - pair it with an all black fit for a striking look that will really emphasise this neck accessory, or a monochrome look with understated colours: basically, anything that lets this statement scarf shine.
That being said, sometimes after carefully picking out your trousers, top, shoes and your socks, just before you head out you realise it’s freezing. When a sudden icy wind catches you off guard and you need a scarf for a layer of warmth, then we recommend going for Likemary’s grey Diamond Weave Merino woollen scarf for a trendy scarf that will go with any colour palette or aesthetic.
All our scarves come with fast shipping, so get a scarf for all three occasions so you’re never left without.
