Katie Munro Art

I am a Fine Art Illustrator and Art Teacher from Bournemouth working in watercolour, ink, acrylic and cyanotype. I create semi-abstract works using vivid colours, wet-on-wet and layering techniques. I am drawn to psychedelic art, surrealism, pop culture and feminist art styles. My artwork is informed by interpretations of the subconscious. In particular, our ability to find power and strength during periods of struggle and vulnerability. I am inspired by the idea of conjuring power as being something magical and find themes such as witchcraft and paganism to mindfulness and meditation fascinating. Through my use of materials, I explore the notion of finding a balance between a meticulous, almost obsessive need for control and the need to just let go and allow things to happen as they are meant to. Living in Bournemouth places me in close proximity to the sea which is a huge source of inspiration to my watery, semi-abstract cyanotype compositions. I capture silhouettes of seaweed collected from the beach which are then embellished with watercolours.
