Inspired by the mooring bollards seen on wharves and the rope winches seen on boats, Patrick Hartog integrated the textile cable into his table light design with ambience in mind.
Working together with craftsmen in the ‘ceramic city’ of Jingdezhen, China, the studio has been able to create lights made of high-quality porcelain and ‘bone china’.
The material’s special characteristics allow it to be highly translucent with light able to travel through the ceramic.
Because the lamp is made out of breakable ceramics, the bottom cap is made out of soft but flexible silicon rubber. It also carries the socket. To replace the lightbulb, you can just pop it out.
