Meet the Tasmanian Artist, Sharyn Bursic!

What inspired you to become an artist, and when did you first realise that you wanted to pursue this career path?

As a child, I was happiest when I could paint or colour with pencils.  I started painting non stop when I turned 50 and it's always my happy place. It gives me great joy to see my art featured in homes around the world.

What are some of your favourite materials and mediums to work with, and why do you prefer them?

My favourite medium to paint with are watercolour and acrylic. I love how watercolour paint interacts with the paper to create subtle variations in colour and tone, and its translucent quality. With acrylic paint, I love the versatility, vibrancy, and fast-drying properties, which allow for bold and dynamic compositions.

How would you describe your artistic style, and how has it evolved over time?

My artistic style has evolved to become a unique blend of naive impressionism and figurative art. My subject matter includes animals and the female form, plus humour sometimes enters my work.  I’m also a crazy cat lady, so you will find many cats in my paintings.

What themes or ideas do you explore in your artwork, and why are they important to you?

The themes I mainly paint is women, the ocean, swimming, cats, cats & more cats.

Can you walk us through your creative process, from the initial concept to the finished piece?

I normally start with a specific idea or concept in my mind, then begin with a simple sketch straight onto the paper or canvas. I then decide on colour & detail intuitively as I am creating the artwork.

What's your favourite piece that you sell on Fy! and why?

My favourite piece on sell on Fy is my Orange Cat.
