We discuss all things art with Andy Westface!

What inspired you to become an artist, and when did you first realise that you wanted to pursue this career path?

I started to draw when I was a child and I loved sketching on my school books all the time. Since my high school graduation, based on some personal reasons, I have tried few type of jobs not concerned with art or design. But I feel it does not suit for me, in my heart I was tempted to try to create something different. So I became an independent original illustrator : )

What are some of your favourite materials and mediums to work with, and why do you prefer them?

I love digital artworks, because I love the convenience and efficiency of it. My laptop was my best materials and mediums.

How would you describe your artistic style, and how has it evolved over time?

I really like the simplicity in vector, and I also like the colours of the rainbow very much too. So I decided to combine them into my own unique style. My artwork is always about saying, "Don’t give up your dream, and try your best to have a happy life. Don’t dream your life, live your dream." And I consider animals and rainbows important elements in my artwork because of their purity, sincerity and their most joyful color in the world.

Who are some artists or other creative figures that have influenced your work, and how have they inspired you?

I like Yoshitomo Nara in Japan, his works is deceptively simple. Little girl and infant animals, each work is a peek into a world that seems eerily familiar. His works were inspired me very much.

How do you stay motivated and inspired when you hit a creative block or rough patch?

When I'm totally uninspired and super tired...  I love to take a short trip to take a break, to get some new experience : )

What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting out on their artistic journeys?

It always seems impossible until it’s done”. You should start your illustration career as early as possible and no matter what the results are, just do what you really want!
