Your hallway might not be the most exciting part of your home, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. In fact, with some smart interior design choices, and a little creativity thrown in for good measure, you can transform the space you dump your bags and shoes, into the most stylish and welcoming space in your home. Whether you're looking to add colour, texture, or personality to your house these hacks will help make a statement, creating a great first impression for your guests.

Hack #1: Front Runner

Starting with runners might seem a little bold, but we’re not talking about the slightly tacky throws your nan has had since 1972. There are a bunch of beautiful runners out there that immediately fill a hallway with colour and character and create separation from the outside as you enter a house and join the home.

Hack #2: Smile Prep

On those days when you just don’t want to face the world, but work expects you in or the in-laws need some attention – a little pick me up can go a long way. In this case, a slightly cheeky message will at least put a smile on your face, but a colourful piece of art is just as good and’ll work a treat as you head out of your hallway to take on the world.

Hack #3: Check You Out

When space is at such a premium, making the most of what you already have is everything. While mirrors won’t magic you a few extra square metres, they do give the noticeable illusion of room that wouldn’t otherwise be there. In a skinny hallway filled with coats, that can do a lot of good and even better if it’s a bit jazzy.

Hack #4: Holding Things Up

We get it, this one isn’t super exciting, but the warm feeling you get when everything is neat and tidy, and other halves/kids aren’t complaining they can’t find anything – you’ll thank us. Shelves are a great way to increase space, and in a hallway that’s key. They also double up as a brilliant place to put additional decorative features.

Hack #5: Hold That Would You

Ooo we love a good vase. Don’t you? No matter how much light, the colour of the walls, or the furniture in it, your hallway will be better for a bunch of flowers and those flowers need a beautiful place to call home. Vases come in all shapes and sizes, so fitting in with the rest of the decor, or not if that’s your style, is easy.

See, turning that hallway into something special really isn’t that tough. With those 5 simple hacks on their own, you can take a drab, tight space and open it up as the perfect entrance to the rest of your home. Get creative, get thinking, and then kit your hallway out with everything you could ever want.
